Apart from our exhibition at HKW, we present to you our partner exhibitions starting at different venues this weekend.

This weekend our main partner exhibitions open during the transmediale and CTM Vorspiel. An Ecosystem of Excess shows new, speculative species born in an imagined post-human ecosystem. Schizophrenia Taiwan 2.0 focuses on the digital revolution in the work of young Taiwanese new media artists. future past – past future asks about the possible alternative future scenarios, and about the relationship between the past, present and future in Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. Slogans for the Early Twenty-First Century, a solo exhibition by the writer and visual artist Douglas Coupland contains 80 statements through which he has made a consistent effort to “Try and isolate what is already different in the twenty-first century mind as opposed to the twentieth.” Read more.

Our partner festival CTM – Festival for Adventurous Music and Art starts on Friday with their exhibition opening.

Our partner festival CTM opens on Friday 24 January with their exhibition The Generation Z: ReNoise at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien. It assembles rare original early sound equipment and explores the fate of researchers, sound experimentalists, and inventors active during a Russian period of revolution, war, and dictatorship in the first decades of the last century. Under the general theme Dis Continuity, the festival presents adventurous music and art at different venues in Berlin: Berghain / Panorama Bar / Kantine, HAU 1, HAU 2 / WAU, Kunstquartier & Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien, Stattbad, West Germany, Where is Jesus? Exhibition / Internet Yami-Ichi

More than 80 artists / hackers work on this year's exhibition. On Sunday, 02.02, an Internet Black Market awaits you.

This year’s central exhibition Art Hack Day Berlin : Afterglow gathers more than 80 artists and hackers working intensively in a hackathon for two days at the start of the festival to come up with an instant exhibition that responds to the festival theme. We’re excited about the collaborative works and projects that will take us into and hopefully beyond the afterglow in an event that it is devoted to cracking open the process of art-making, with special reverence toward open-source technologies. Art Hack Day Berlin is an organisational and curatorial collaboration between transmediale, Art Hack Day and LEAP (Daniel Franke, Kai Kreuzmüller, John McKiernan). Read more.

On the last festival day, we also invite you to The Internet Yami-Ichi (Black Market) in the exhibition hall. Visit this flea market which deals with the selling of "Internet-ish" things, face-to-face, in actual space. Both flea markets and the Internet are fanatical and chaotic mixes of the amazing and useless. Japanese vendors from the first two Internet Yami-Ichi gatherings are coming to Berlin to participate in this one-day event, to meet their German
Internet freak comrades and to join in this unpredictable intercultural point of exchange for its first ever staging outside of Japan.

The Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs supports select Japanese artists participating in transmediale and Art Hack Day Berlin : Afterglow through the Japan Media Arts Festival Participation in Overseas Media Arts Festivals project. Read more.

At HKW, preparations for our main installation CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE, a media-technical landscape survey, have already started. It will enable direct observation, revealing the materials and systems that allow media arts, media artists, festivals and venues to exist and persist. An on-site inspection of transmediale 2014 afterglow is undertaken.

An diesem Wochenende beginnen unsere Partnerausstellungen während des Vorspiels von transmediale und CTM. An Ecosystem of Excess zeigt neue, spekulative Spezies, die ein imaginäres posthumanes Ökosystem hervorbringt. In Schizophrenia Taiwan 2.0 beschäftigen sich die teilnehmenden Künstlerinnen und Künstler mit dem technologischen Fortschritt, der die Welt revolutioniert, indem traditionelle narrative Strukturen aufgebrochen und die Medien zum zentralen Faktor der Wirtschaft werden. future past – past future fragt nach möglichen alternativen Zukunftsszenarien und nach dem Verhältnis zwischen Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft in Bulgarien, Griechenland und der Türkei. Slogans for the Early Twenty-First Century, eine Einzelausstellung des Autors und Künstlers Douglas Coupland zeigt 80 Statements, durch die er versucht, „zu verhandeln und einzugrenzen, was sich auf dem Weg vom Geist des 20. Unser Partnerfestival CTM startet am Freitag, den 24.Januar mit seiner Ausstellung The Generation Z: ReNoise im Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien. Sie zeigt frühe Raritäten und Originalsoundequipment und untersucht das Schicksal von Wissenschaftlern, Klangexperimentalisten und Erfindern während der Russischen Revolution, in Zeiten des Krieges und der Diktatur zu Beginn des letzten Jahrhunderts. Mehr als 80 Künstler / Hacker erarbeiten die Ausstellung. Am Sonntag, 02.02, erwartet euch ein Internet Black Market.

Die zentrale Ausstellung dieses Jahr, Art Hack Day Berlin: Afterglow, bringt mehr als 80 Künstler und Hacker zusammen, die gemeinsam in einem zweitägigen Hackathon vor dem Festival Werke für eine Blitzausstellung erarbeiten und damit auf das Festivalthema reagieren. Wir sind gespannt auf die gemeinschaftlichen Arbeiten und Projekte, die uns zum Afterglow führen und hoffentlich darüber hinaus bringen werden – in einem Event, das Prozesse der Kunst-Produktion transparent machen will und sich dabei besonders für Open-Source-Technologien interessiert. Art Hack Day Berlin ist eine organisatorische und kuratorische Zusammenarbeit zwischen transmediale, Art Hack Day und LEAP (Daniel Franke, Kai Kreuzmüller, John McKiernan). Mehr lesen.

Am letzten Festivaltag laden wir euch außerdem zum Internet Yami-Ichi (Black Market) ein, der in der Ausstellungshalle stattfindet. Besucht diesen Flohmarkt, auf dem Dinge verkauft werden, die mit dem Internet zu tun haben, von Angesicht zu Angesicht, in der Realität. Sowohl Flohmärkte als auch das Internet sind fanatische und chaotische Mischungen des Großartigen und des Nutzlosen. Japanische Verkäufer der ersten zwei Internet Yami-Ichi-Events kommen nach Berlin, um ihre deutschen Internet-Freak-Kameraden zu treffen und diesen interkulturellen Austausch zum ersten Mal außerhalb von Japan zu veranstalten.

Hier bei uns im HKW haben bereits die Vorbereitungen für die Installation CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE begonnen – bald eine medientechnologische Umgebungsstudie. Die Arbeit unternimmt eine metrologische Untersuchung der transmediale 2014 und ermöglicht so die direkte Beobachtung der Materialien und Systeme, die der Medienkunst, Medienkünstlern, Festivals und Aufführungsorten zu existieren erlauben.
