SPK

SPK

SPK was a music group formed in Sydney, Australia in 1977 by Graeme Revell (aka Operator, Oblivion, EMS AKS) and Neil Hill (aka Ne/H/il). They met at a psychiatric hospital where Revell was a nurse (with reponsibilities including the dispensation of drugs and adminstration of electroshocks) and Hill had been both a nurse and a patient. During their active years on the noise and industrial scene in the 1980s and early 1990s several other members joined the group, including David Virgin, Danny Rumour, Dominik Guerin (aka Tone Generator), and Sinan Leong. Hill committed suicide in 1984, while Revell would later go on to become a Hollywood movie composer. SPK has several meanings, e.g. “System Planning Korporation”, “Surgical Penis Klinik” or “Sozialistisches Patienten Kollektiv“, like the German Marxist organisation of the same name, who saw the origin of psychotic diseases in the destructive mechanisms of capitalism.
