Theun Karelse studied Fine Arts at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam before joining FoAM, a translocal postdisciplinary platform for artistic research. His interests and experimental practice include experimental ecology, archaeology, and physics. He initiated Boskoi, the world's first smartphone app concerned with nature, Augmented Ecology, where he keeps track of how nature is going online, and most recently Machine Wilderness, a project investigating human technology from the perspective of landscapes by in-situ prototyping sessions with varied transdisciplinary teams.
