Urban gardening became part of the new organic life style, which goes along with a contemporary commoditization of our desires for nature, the natural and the sustainable. Is there something else I've lost? "takes a breath of fresh air" in the traditionally self-organized gardens in the outskirts of Wuhan, a city in the south of China with over ten million inhabitants. Soon these carefully maintained vegetable gardens will be demolished by the massive housing projects of an accelerated urban modernisation. Besides depicting fragments of fields and outlining traces of profound skills of how to construct support structures for plants, the film reflects on the encounter of the filmmaker with the community of urban farmers, on the presence and "otherness" of the Western artist with her camera.
