Phuturama
PHUTURAMA – Salon Sub-Conference on Speculative and Fictional Design
Fictional, speculative and futuristic design – often staged by the popular mass media – increasingly expands its picture power over the 'real' industrial design. How do designers judge this influence? Do they feel particularly responsible in terms of how their works affect the real world? On then: how independent are designers really considering that futuristic design must always strike their respective contemporaries as 'futuristic'. Doesn't their work first of all reflect the cultural unconscious of a respective period?
PHUTURAMA invites ‘Visual Futurists’ – designers and artists from various branches of media and production – to discuss whether and how a growing picture power of speculative, futuristic or fictional design impacts the design of the ‘real’ world. Film production designers, game developers, SciFi authors, comic artists and visionary car designers encounter futurologists, and professionals meet SciFi activists and fans.
