Temporal bandwidth, is the width of your present, your now. It is the familiar '[delta-] t' considered as a dependent variable. The more you dwell in the past and in the future, the thicker your bandwidth, the more solid your persona. But the narrower your sense of Now, the more tenuous you are.
[Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow]

Topology Of A Future City is a speculative working group divining, describing and thus constructing a future city (in ruins); an urban vector extrapolated from EM, signal (electromagnetic) and literary traces. Borrowing techniques from geophysical archaeology (revealing and mapping), narrative displacements (filmic manipulations of temporality), and coded psychogeographics, the workshop will sketche a novel model and working practice for the future city flaneur.
Topology will commence with a series of investigations, interventions, and broadcasts several days prior to the end of transmediale.10. The working group is composed of five core researchers and eight further participants selected from an open, public call. Researchers include Oswald Berthold, Verena Kuni and Danja Vasiliev with project-instigator Martin Howse. Research will be continued and presented by the core artists/researchers during the transmediale festival. Topology is situated within the context of a mobile research laboratory initiated by _____-micro-research in 2010.
