Steina and Woody Vasulka

Steina and Woody Vasulka

Steina and Woody Vasulka, trained as a violinist and engineer/filmaker respectively, are pioneers of video art. Their oeuvre goes back to the  mid 1960s when they first showed in New York City and the 1970s when they invented electronic tools especially for artistic uses, in particular devices to transform or rather distort sound and images, space and time. Both collectively and individually they have explored  electronic energies and imaginations through performances, installations, and videos that involve experimental hardware modifications and inventions. Moreover, they co-founded the legendary exhibition, performance, and production space The Kitchen (1971-) in Soho New York.
