In this double workshop, Henry Warwick and Telekommunisten will demonstrate their projects, DATAFIELD and deadSwap respectively.

Henry Warwick will present ‘DATAFIELD2’ and ‘DATAFIELD3’ and introduce his main ideas behind his book The Radical Tactics of the Offline Library. DATAFIELD2 is a Network Attached Storage unit, while DATAFIELD3 is a set of USB keys. They are very different projects, but share a number of ideas and resources as they pertain to Henry's focused work and research on ‘Personal Portable Library’ systems. The workshop will discuss the features and principles of a ‘Personal Portable Library’ and will introduce methods of how it can be constructed. It will particularly explore how ‘Datafield’ technology works in conjunction with distribution systems like ‘deadSwap’. Ideas about the future of such systems, in terms of theory and practice will be shared and their implications for the future of scholarship, research, and property will be discussed.

The Telekommunisten will show participants how to run a deadSwap network, the dos and don'ts, use cases and scenarios. Participants will have the chance to look behind the scenes, exploring how the deadSwap service works on the inside.

No specialised knowledge beyond basic personal computer operations is needed to attend and participate. Bringing a USB key is suggested, but not required.
