The Creatures is an endless combination of living members/ apparatuses, composed by miniature robots that live autonomously, receiving energy from solar cells and generating a variety of soft sounds and tiny movements.

The miniature robot orchestra Creatures consists of an endless combination of small apparatuses that live autonomously, receiving their energy from solar cells and generating a variety of soft sounds and tiny movements.
The Creatures are developed with two simple analogue oscillator circuits, inspired by the nervous system of organisms. Every module is special and unique, and it is impossible to build an exact equal.
According to the interaction and cooperation that occurs between the different creatures, a system is developed. As it is impossible to make copies, each creature is unique with a particular character, name and role in this system.
The direction of the orchestra comes from master of ceremonies Katerina Undo who ‘train’ the relatively cooperative groups of creatures for performing live. Up to date a Creatures sextet, an ensemble (18 members) and a Creatures orchestra (20 members) have successfully performed.
The produced sounds that are the results of manipulated and varying light circumstances are amplified and mixed. The sculptural aspect of the synthesis is characterised by primitivism and fragility, while the functional electronic components (free form soldering and fixed connections) are determining the aesthetics, like a depiction of a miniature society, an organic, open nervous system, under constant fermentation.
