Mercenary Cubiclists tells the story of the fictional British town of Galtham. Galtham is a dystopian smart city, where connected objects have enabled the corporation that runs it to tie access to resources directly to labour, essentially making the residents digital slaves. The work that the residents perform is the tagging of images and videos with keywords on their computers. The project examines the unimaginable outcomes from a top-down connected future, one of exploitative labour practices and resource shortage.
