Feb 5 / Preview of Day 5!

The end is drawing near with while the program offers the last of the liveness! Life at Work: Bioeconomy and the Crisis of Cognitive Capitalism is a keynote presentation that looks at the economy of life in the realm of digital networks, What is Live – From the Aura to the Avatar surveys the aesthetic controversies and artistic appropriations of liveness in mass media, sighting examples from John Cage and Nam June Paik, and a screening of Das erste Fernsehen presents reels of the German Federal Archive from the 1930’s and 40s, which demonstrate a shift in German TV culture to go ‘live’ and experiment with surveillance capabilities.

As an afterward to last night’s performance Face Visualizer: Instrument, Daito Manabe demonstrates his technique of face manipulation through electroshock stimulation in the workshop BodyHack. Participants can join in the demonstration and ‘hack’ each other’s faces… this time without the music accompaniment.

And tonight’s special event is the transmediale.11 Award Ceremony in the HKW Auditorium, beginning at 21:00. Three awards will be granted, the transmediale Award for visionary artworks that demonstrate our technologically defined society, the Vilém Flusser Theory Award for artistic research and discourse, and the newest edition, the Open Web Award, for projects that support free and open technologies which allows participation and collaboration on an Open Web.
