Dora Grafova, an eighty-year-old woman, tells about the various journals she had subscribed to during the era of the Soviet Union. At that time, she, her husband and her son received 17 different monthlies: about gardening, the world, technology, women and about the cultivation of potatoes.
With a cutter knife I cut animated geographical / geological contour lines into photobooks. Each movement of the cut out masks points at both, the future and the past while the photographic present is dissolving. I followed the shadow of my hand with the knife.
The raw material for an uncompleted 1939 documentary shows art students working in painting and sculpture classes as well as in museums. Many scenes were filmed several times with only slight variations.
